Father John McDonough of Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, and Azra Hussain, president, founder and director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona, will be the speakers.

The Islamic Speakers Bureau is a non-profit, educational organization founded in 1999 to provide education about Islam and the Muslim culture.

Islam workshop involves local Catholic leaders

“The Truth Concerning Islam: Cutting through Myth and Bias,” will be the theme of a one-day workshop sponsored by the Franciscan Renewal Center on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Father John McDonough of Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills, and Azra Hussain, president, founder and director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona, will be the speakers.

The Islamic Speakers Bureau is a non-profit, educational organization founded in 1999 to provide education about Islam and the Muslim culture.

Phil LoCascio, deacon at Ascension Church, will be the host and moderator. Time will be provided for questions.

LoCascio, a Catholic homilist, parish mission director and Casa Retreat presenter, said Hussain and Father McDonough will help participants learn about Islam as an ancient and widespread faith.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale.

The cost is $40 per person and includes lunch.
