As a concerned inhabitant of Planet Earth, I request that you take a moment to examine the recent decision of the US to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.
Nurturing and protecting our planet is not a partisan issue which, unfortunately, it has become. We are all caretakers of “Mother Earth,” a gift from Divine Providence. It’s our responsibility to utilize the benefits our natural resources offer and act in harmony with nature.
Participation in the Paris Climate Accord offers America the opportunity to be a leader in our world and to demonstrate respect for the vital resources our planet offers mankind. It doesn’t take science to show us the water we drink and the air we breathe are essential to our existence.

To intentionally and selfishly abuse these essential resources in the pursuit and satisfaction of greed is not a sign of intelligence or advanced civilization. Protecting our environment should bring us ALL together, for it benefits all of mankind. More importantly, it’s our responsibility to pass on to future generations a climate and environment that will sustain them. Besides this, developing new technologies in wind, solar and hydroelectric is creating jobs, generating revenue and facilitating advances in nearly every category of our existence.
It is a grave mistake for our country to turn our backs on something so important to our existence. It’s not science, but love and respect for the tremendous gift we’ve been so lovingly provided.
I implore you to examine these considerations the next time you see the sun rise and set from our beautiful town. Do what is right for everyone--not only here, but throughout our world. It starts with you, Mayor Kavanagh and the City Council, following the lead of Phoenix and participating in the Paris Climate Accord.
