In response to a letter regarding the medicinal and legal value of marijuana, I’d like to address a few points.
First, while some special interest groups may spend millions getting marijuana onto state ballots, the pharmaceutical lobbyists in D.C. have spent millions getting drugs federally backed and fast-tracked to market while the FDA looks the other way.

What’s more, that same industry spends billions to fund political campaigns so that their sponsored politicians will continue to support legislation designed to further the status quo of the medical process, which relies mostly on promoting pharmaceuticals that treat symptoms, rather than cure us, keeping us sick and dependent on their medicine and their politics.
These are the real drug dealers, not the entrepreneurs who want to open marijuana dispensaries in small towns.
Another comment addressed the “medicinal” aspect of marijuana. Plants, herbs, vitamins, minerals are naturally occurring and therefore cannot be patented. If it can’t be patented, corporations cannot profit by claiming that they created a cure for some ailment.
It would be like trying to bottle sunshine and selling it to a doctor to as a treatment for seasonal affective disorder. Doctors don’t prescribe marijuana because it isn’t a drug, it’s an herb, and doctors are not in business to sell herbs. You can’t legally call something “medicine” unless it has been created. As such, I really don’t think that God is willing to give up patent rights on His creations any time soon.
We need to stop fearing what we don’t understand. Kids are more apt to try something that they’ve been told is evil and that they should avoid. Don’t we remember when we were kids?
Instead of the political propaganda, we should be listening to Mother Nature, she has been getting it right for millions of years.
