The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for this upcoming weekend, with temperatures in the Phoenix area forecast to approach 120 degrees, which is dangerous and deadly heat.
The warning was issued this past Sunday with the Weather Service citing strong high pressure for bringing on the heat.
The forecast states that significant warming will persist starting Friday, June 17, and continue into early next week, with potentially record high temperatures.
The effective time for the warning is from 10 a.m. on Friday, through 8 p.m. on Monday, June 20.
High temperatures are expected to increase from 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday to 110 to 120F on Sunday, only lowering in some locations by one to two degrees on Monday.
The Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect Friday for south-central Arizona, including the greater Phoenix area, spreading into the majority of the Desert Southwest Saturday through Monday.
Those who must be outside during the peak heat of the day, remember to stay hydrated. Drink before you get thirsty, limit your time outside/exposure to the sun, use your air-conditioner or seek out public locations that provide A/C like libraries, public malls, and cooling centers. Find a cooling center or hydration station near you at http://coolme.today.
Also, avoid strenuous activity and postpone outdoor activities, help the elderly, kids and pets stay cool and close window blinds during the day.
