James: Councilman Skillicorn does not practice the civility he calls for

Councilperson Skillicorn has publicly called for civility while he demeans others, including other council members, through his social media accounts.

He was admonished during a recent call to the public about a tweet that poked at and disparaged transgender people. His response was to go home and post the offending message again! He asks for civility from others but exempts his own behavior and mean-spirited urges. This is not the way I or others want our town represented.

The Fountain Hills Ethics Code instructs council members to: “Be dedicated to the highest ideals of honor, ethics and integrity in all public and personal relationships. We shall conduct ourselves so as to maintain public confidence in Town government and in the performance of the public trust. Engage in constructive conversations and debates that encourage the exchange of ideas while avoiding personal attacks or derogatory language. Refrain from making verbal attacks upon the character or motives of other members of the Council, Boards, Commissions, the staff, or the public. Refrain from making disparaging remarks about the other members of the Council, Boards, Commissions, the staff, or the public.”

Allen Skillicorn should show some respect for this town and step down.
