Posted

James T. Spizzirri (1938-2013) died suddenly in his Fountain Hills home on Dec. 23, 2013. He was born Dec. 14, 1938.

He is survived by his son Keith (Miriam) of Scottsdale and daughter Tena (Peter) of Ft. Lee, N.J., his seven grandchildren and his first wife, Joanne.

Mr. Spizzirri fought his way out of poverty in Chicago to the height of success as the business owner of many solid waste hauling companies.

Locally, Jim and his son owned Best Disposal Services, which became the largest independent hauling company in Arizona. Best Disposal was eventually acquired by Allied Waste.

Mr. Spizzirri was an avid fisherman and loved spending his summers in Homer, Alaska, where his door was always open to visitors as his generosity knew no bounds. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Food Bank.

A service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary in Scottsdale, 6500 E. Bell Road.
