James: What to consider when voting for local leadership
These are my considerations in a vote for mayor of Fountain Hills. What are yours?
Ginny Dickey: 40-plus-year resident, raised her family in FHUSD, eight years as Fountain Hills School Board member, eight years as town councilwoman, six years as mayor. Decades of contributions that support and keep the hometown character, safety (perhaps the safest community in the Valley), financial balance and economic vitality that we all want to continue for Fountain Hills.
Gerry Friedel: Five years on Town Council, wants a change in leadership and "clean up priorities." Says safety should include neighborhood patrols, watch groups and expansion of the posse. Says he wants to address empty commercial and storefronts but doesn't support sustaining or revitalizing the Target center with additional residential housing.

Joe Arpaio: Another whose idea of public safety is resurrecting a volunteer posse. You already should know his past ideas on law enforcement resulted in many federal lawsuits and have cost Maricopa County taxpayers millions of dollars and counting. Says his name recognition will bring business, tourism and investment.
My vote will be to keep the town moving in a positive direction with optimism, unity and respect for all. My vote will be to reelect Mayor Dickey and any like her.
