Janet Tanner, 89, of Rio Verde passed away June 23, 2016 in the Mayo Clinic of Phoenix.
Janet Was born Jan. 14, 1927 in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of Mildred and Stanley Taylor. Following her graduation from El Dorado High School, she entered the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. In June, 1948, she received her bachelor's degree in fine art.
In the fall of that year she married Edward (Ned) W. Tanner Jr. The couple lived in the greater Kansas City, area, with two children, Edward (Ward), W, Tanner III, and Laurie R. Tanner.
After the children were born she became art teacher and then Art Director of Children’s Education in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Later she obtained her Master’s Degree in Art and became a very talented artist. Her art consisted of oil, pastel, and watercolor, exquisite in fine detail.
When Ned retired, the couple moved to Colorado Springs in the area of Garden of the Gods area. Janet enjoyed golf, tennis, and continued with her art. Next Janet and Ned moved to Rio Verde and lived in a golf retirement center and remained there until the loss of each other.
Janet was a delightful lady, always very friendly. She will be sorely missed by all her friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Ned. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Tanner Zedaker; son, Ward and his wife, Alexia; grandsons, Zachary and Josh Tanner, and their mother, Lynda Tanner.
The ashes of Janet and Ned Tanner will be scattered in Colorado at a later date.
