Our sweet Joan, 64, passed away on Sept. 16, 2018 after a year’s-long valiant battle with PSP.
Joan was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on Sept. 28, 1953. Joan’s family moved to Miami, Fla. while she was still very young, where Joan attended both grade school and high school and graduated nursing school in May of 1976 with her RN degree from Miami-Dade Community College.
After that, she moved to Atlanta, Ga. to begin her 40-year career as a registered nurse. Joan enlisted on active duty in the U.S. Army in September 1978 and honorably served two years.
Joan married her husband of 38 years, Michael, in January 1980. She gave life to, loved, nurtured and raised two sons.
Joan leaves behind her husband, Michael, of Fountain Hills; sons, Scott of Phoenix and Dennis of Mesa; also, two sisters, Gail Lombardo of Gainesville, Ga. and Patricia Guthrie of Floral City, Fla. as well as six grandchildren and a niece all of whom she loved unconditionally.
Joan loved and was loved by all who knew her. Her cheerful, bubbly personality and disposition will always be remembered. We all love and miss you so much. A memorial service will be held at Messinger Mortuary Fountain Hills on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. Donations can be made to the PSP Association at psp.org/iwanttohelp/ways-to-give.
