John Allexan was born on April 23, 1927 in Evanston, Ill. and passed away on Feb. 18, 2019 in Scottsdale, Ariz. at the age of 91.

John graduated from Waukegan Town High School before enlisting, at the age of 17, in the Coast Guard where he served in the South Pacific on LST 140 during WW II. He then graduated from University of Illinois in 1949 with a degree in geology.

He met Sally Schickler on a blind date while attending the University of Illinois and they married in 1950. They were just shy of celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary on Feb. 25.

For the next 33 years John worked for Texaco in marketing and sales. He held various positions and moved to many locations; one of his favorites was as VP of Texaco Caribbean for seven years. John retired from Texaco in 1982.

Sally and John decided that Fountain Hills was the perfect place to retire and they lived there for 37 years before recently moving to Pueblo Norte.

John was a member of Delta Tau Delta, Masonic Lodge Oriental #20, and president of Robinson School PTA in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a former member and president of the Fountain Hills Men’s Club.

John loved to fish, hunt, golf, play bridge, read and travel, oh did we mention hunting! Sally and John in their retirement enjoyed 63 trips with Road Scholar.

John is survived by his wife, Sally; two sons, Steve (wife Suzanne), Dan (wife Paulette); three grandchildren, Kristin, Jackie, Sarah and Travis (deceased).

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. at the St. Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church in Scottsdale with reception to follow. No flowers, but donations to St. Anthony are appreciated. Amen!
