John Joseph Myers, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015 at his home in Fountain Hills lovingly surrounded by family.
John was born May 11, 1936 in Spencer, Iowa to Loyd J. and Ruby Grace (Enderton). John graduated from Marathon High School, attended Buena Vista College and the University of Iowa where he completed radiologic technology training.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959 and served in a field hospital in Germany. He settled in Jefferson, Iowa and began working at Greene County Medical Center.
In 1961, John married Sharon Minnihan and they welcomed children Michael, Matthew, Rodney, Amy and David to their life. He then served as the administrator at Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa.
In 1978, John married Donna Millhollin Anthens, bringing daughters Elizabeth and Caryn to the family and later welcoming another daughter, Joanah.
Before his retirement in 1989, John served as administrator at Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. In 1991, he moved to Chandler, Ariz., where he returned to work as a radiology technician until his second retirement in 2006.
Although a man of few words, his love was always felt. His creativity, quick wit and kind nature will be missed by his wife, Donna, and seven children, Michael Myers (Sarah) of Thompson, N.D., Matthew Myers (Shannon) of Boone, Iowa, Amy Myers (Bill Haman) of Ankeny, Iowa, Elizabeth Estes (Chris) of Ahwatukee, Ariz., David Myers (Laurie) of Ames, Iowa, Caryn Anthens of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joanah Myers (Mike O’Shaughnessy) of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, Nathaniel (Jessica), Stephanie (Daniel), Andrew, Tom, Rachel, AnnaLee, Eryn, Katelyn, Joseph, and Paige; and three great-grandchildren, Lucius, Bo and Lemon; his brother, George Myers (Susan) of Prairie City, Iowa; and sister, Donna Percy of Alleman, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Franciscan Renewal Center in Paradise Valley on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of the Valley or the Franciscan Renewal Center.
