Fountain Hills resident Roy Kinsey was honored along with the late Chet Andrews of Scottsdale with the dedication of the Andrews - Kinsey Trail across the McDowell Mountains Saturday, Nov. 8.
The trail connects the Western Loop Trail in Fountain Hills with the Sunrise Trail in the Scottsdale McDowell Mountain Preserve. It is the first trail to connect the two preserve areas directly. In 1997 then Mayor Jerry Miles and Scottsdale Mayor Sam Campana pledged cooperation in working with the two preserve areas. Over the past 17 years there has been cooperation, but the progress has been slow.
Len Marcisz, a preserve steward and trail guide who has worked with both Andrews and Roy Kinsey over the years, described them as “two gentleman who led by example and encouragement.”

“They would get you to say yes without you realizing it and then get the most out of you,” Marcisz said. “They were masters of leading with the gentle hand.”
