In the DVD of the same name, Director Reggio misapplies Hopi prophesy to white man’s technology of this, the present world. It is not consistent with the facts of three Hopi prophesies, which is essentially an Indian societal concern of degradation and promiscuity.

The term translated means crazy life, life unbalanced, life disintegrating, a life that needs changing. That life could be a single life or small group, but never automatons, cyborgs, robots or machines in general.

Frenetic driving minimalist music, by composer Phillip Glass, was from the start a bias and slant desired by Reggio to show apocalyptic tendencies.

Try this experiment when viewing the DVD. Shut off the sound and substitute a more soothing sound; say, Brahms. And notice there is an entirely different feeling, negating an apocalyptic feel. Meaning the images are what the images are without bias of sound. The apocalyptic feel of the original score is wholly contrived bias of Hollywood fiction.

To speed up and slow down the sounds and images, maybe art when impressed on an adapting viewing brain, but such distortion is no documentary. It is fiction.

For white man there is no “old spider woman.” Nor are there for him the “Ya a Yaa Pontsa” to dance the fire dance of purification. Know this; that dance is a magic spell and is a symbol, a magic way of resolving degradation and promiscuity. Perhaps a better way and even a best way, certainly a less lethal way.
