Fountain Hills Theater will present a benefit concert performance of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”

This single performance will benefit the Arizona Humane Society in honor of the late Irene Lopez.

It will be staged Sunday evening, Sept. 7.

She was a beloved educator who touched the lives of literally tens of thousands of young people. Lopez had recently retired as principal of Rose Linda School and returned to one of her great loves – musically directing and accompanying musical theater performances.

Most recently, she had musically directed and played piano for The Fountain Hills Theater summer productions of “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”

Within days of finishing the run of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” on July 27, Irene Lopez suffered an aneurysm and passed away.

The cast of “I Love You” was devastated and requested the use of the theater for a benefit performance in Irene’s honor.

Her long-time partner, Gus Padilla, suggested one of Irene’s favorite charities: The Arizona Humane Society. The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, which holds the rights to “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” was contacted and they generously waived their usual fees.

This benefit performance of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” will star the hit summer cast of Chad Campbell, Jessica Godber, Kathleen Berger and Andrew Lipman.

Four actors play over 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs scaling the dizzying spectrum of male/female relationships. This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as “the relationship.”

This production contains strong language and adult content.

Tickets are $15 and additional donations to the AZ Humane Society will be accepted at the door.

The performance will be held at Fountain Hills Theater on its Mainstage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd. Tickets are available through the Theater Box Office at (480) 837-9661 x3 or at www.fhtaz.org.
