When facts and logic are ignored, emotion, hyperbole and innuendo are trumpeted instead, and one has to consider the source of the diatribe you read.
Animal rights folks want man and people behind the glass so they can watch nature take care of itself and take its own course. For them, the exceptions of course are on TV or in the zoo.
In reality, however, over 300 million people in the United States alone, requires that our land and wildlife be managed for the good of all. In the 21st century, to not do so would spell doom for many species and landscapes. Ms. Miller’s is also a utilitarian view, as Ms. Miller seems to have a desire for human rights extended for animals. While she denigrates hunter conservationists, and quotes an environmentalist animal rightist, she chooses to ignore over a century of hunter dollars, and fails to realize but not for hunters, she’d have far fewer animals to “enjoy.”

Her contention that hunters hunt for some sort of blood lust sport is pure BS. Many hunters never harvest an animal, but enjoy the entire experience itself, from being outside, camping, hiking, canoeing, boating, taking photographs and simply appreciating the outdoors and all wildlife.
On the subject of wildlife refuges, Ms. Miller misses the boat too. Most of the nation’s wildlife refuges allow some sort of regulated and managed hunting and fishing.
Finally, Ms. Miller’s ignorance on the subject is also evident when it comes to shooting a rifle, or for that matter a bow. Even the most highly skilled marksman has no guarantee at 200 yards, and most hunters won’t even attempt a shot at 500 yards. As to archery, a 50-yard shot is far too long for many bow hunters.
