Fountain Hills Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved increasing the size of drive-through signage to better match industry standards during its meeting on May 11.
The commission amended town zoning ordinances to increase signage to 30 square feet and up to seven feet high. Previously regulations limited signs to be 20 square feet or five feet tall, limit to one per drive-through lane and within five feet of the lane as well as not readable from public roadways. It also required them to be least 150 feet from residential district or masonry walls, according to information presented by town Development Services Director John Welsey.
General industry standards for signage include small signs (coffee shops) of six to 12 feet, medium (fast food) of 12 to 24 feet and large full-service boards of 24 to 40 square feet.
