“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” concludes this weekend on stage at the Fountain Hills Theater.

The play follows six awkward adolescents (played by eight adults and one adolescent) through their daunting and hilarious championship quest.

As they navigate the tournament’s pressures, the eccentric coterie finds a new sense of belonging.

Along the way, they learn that there is more to life than winning a trophy.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is produced by Patty Torrilhon and directed by Peter J. Hill.

The cast includes Brian Anderson, Chad Campbell, Matthew Cary, Cassie Chilton, Victoria Fairclough, Alex Gonzalez, Ryan Jordan, Sara Matin and Eric Williams.

Remaining performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Individual tickets are $33 for adults and $28 for youths 17 and under.

Note: This production contains adult language and situations; not recommended for children.

All performances are at Fountain Hills Theater on its Mainstage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd.

Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The original music, lyrics and book were by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin; conceived by Rebecca Feldman; additional material by Jay Reiss; this production is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theater International.
