'Laughter' coming to Fountain Hills Theater
Posted
There is plenty of laughter resounding within the Fountain Hills Theater at this time.
“Laughter on the 23rd Floor” is the newest production to hit the stage.
From Neil Simon’s real- life experiences on the Sid Caesar show comes this side-splitting comedy following the writing, fighting, and wacky antics in the writers’ room of a weekly variety show.
While chaos reigns backstage, star Max Prince battles with NBC executives who fear his humor is too sophisticated for Middle America.
With characters based on his co-writers, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner and Sid Caesar, Simon perfectly showcases the hilarious jokes and banter of the original kings of comedy.
Inspired by Simon’s early career experience as a junior writer (along with his brother Danny) for Your Show of Shows, the play focuses on Sid Caesar-like Max Prince, the star of a weekly comedy-variety show circa 1953, and his staff, including Simon’s alter-ego Lucas Brickman, who maintains a running commentary on the writing, fighting, and wacky antics which take place in the writers’ room.
Characters include the Sid Caesar-inspired Max Prince, hypochondriac Ira inspired by Mel Brooks, dryly witty, sane Kenny, inspired by Larry Gelbart and Carl Reiner and fussy Russian emigre Val, inspired by Mel Tolkin.
It’s written by Neil Simon and produced through special arrangement with Samuel French (the show contains adult language).
“Laughter on the 23rd Floor” is produced by Patty Torrilhon and directed by Peter J. Hill. The show stars Autumn Carlton, Bryan David Cameron, Dana Doyle, Peter J. Hill, Ken Milder, Roger Prenger, Van Rockwell, Mike Romano and Ryan Toro.
“Laughter on the 23rd Floor” plays through Sunday, April 5. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be no performance on Sunday, March 29, due to the Broadway in the Hills fundraiser.
Individual tickets are $28 for adults and $23 for children 17 and under. Seniors receive a $5 discount on Thursday performances. Group rates and student rush discounts are available.
All performances are at Fountain Hills Theater on its Mainstage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd.
Tickets are available through the Theater Box Office at (480) 837-9661, ext. 3, and at www.fhtaz.org.
