With the recent tragic shooting in Kentucky, it brought to mind an incident back in 2013 when our deputies used the closed Four Peaks Elementary School to train for just such an occurrence here. They received permission from the school to use the building, because what better place to train for this than in a similar setting? I was very pleased that our deputies were being proactive, training to protect the safety of our students.
I was very angry to see then Councilwoman Ginny Dickey standing on the corner at the site protesting the deputies’ training. What? I couldn’t believe it at the time. I was also stunned to see her standing there with Randy Parraz, the well-known pro-illegal immigrant activist.
Let me be clear because it’s hard to believe. We had a sitting councilwoman protesting the police who were training at the closed school in the event of a scenario of an active shooting incident at our schools.

And now she wants to be mayor?
Everybody knows from reading The Times that crime is up in town, some of it violent with the use of guns, involving drugs. We need a strong police force here, not one that’s going to be handcuffed against doing what’s best for our town.
I’m voting for Cecil Yates, who has proven that he supports our law enforcement.
