Sheriff’s deputies were called and secured the building until K-9 deputies arrived to sweep the building for possible explosives.

The Fountain Hills Target store was cleared of customers and employees around 8:40 a.m. Friday, June 7, after the store received a call from a male saying there was a bomb in the store.

Sheriff’s deputies were called and secured the building until K-9 deputies arrived to sweep the building for possible explosives.

The dogs completed their sweep and gave the all clear for the store just before 11 a.m.

Sheriff’s detectives were given the case to try and determine who made the call. They were given a couple of leads including an employee who was upset he was fired earlier that morning, and a possible stalker of a female employee.

*On Saturday, June 1, a Fountain Hills resident reported finding a white granular substance in their mailbox. The Fountain Hills Fire Department was called and determined that the substance was not harmful. Firefighters washed out the mailbox.

*On Monday, June 3, a Fountain Hills man reported his Chevy pickup was stolen from the 13000 block of Fountain Hills Boulevard. The keys had been left in the vehicle.

*On Monday, June 3, a Fountain Hills woman reported her 16-year-old son as a runaway after he did not return from a friend’s house. He did return later.

*On Monday, May 6, a male Fountain Hills High School student, age 16, was cited for two counts of providing false information to a police officer. The student admitted sending false tips to Text-A-Tip on two occasions. The charges have been submitted to the juvenile county attorney.

*On Tuesday, May 14, a Fountain Hills man reported receiving a harassing phone message from his brother in Michigan. The brother was reportedly belligerent and angry in accusing the man of preventing him from talking with his mother who lives in Arizona. Deputies talked with the mother who said she did not wish to talk with the son in Michigan.

*On Tuesday, June 4, deputies received a report from a Cave Creek woman who accused her ex-husband of child neglect when he had their children at his home in Fountain Hills. She said the ex-husband was usually drunk around the children, ages five and seven. The information was forwarded to detectives.

*On Sunday, June 2, deputies received a report of criminal damage at Golden Eagle Park. Graffiti had been written in a tunnel at the park and someone cut a shade canopy over a children’s playground. Damage is estimated at $200 to paint over the graffiti and $5,000 to replace the shade material.

*On Wednesday, June 5, deputies arrested a Rio Verde woman for extreme DUI after receiving a call from a bartender at a restaurant in Fountain Hills. The woman was stopped on Fountain Hills Boulevard near Glenbrook Boulevard.

*On Thursday, June 6, deputies received a report of a vehicle burglary in the 15000 block of Yucca Drive. A woman reported a wallet with about $5 cash and her bank cards, driver license and Social Security card was taken.

*On Friday, May 31, a Scottsdale man reported a watch valued at $5,000 was stolen from a golf cart where he left it after playing a round at a Fountain Hills golf course.

*On Friday, June 7, deputies received a report of a hit-and-run accident that damaged a mailbox at a residence in the 17000 block of El Pueblo Boulevard. A witness reported a pickup hit the mailbox and continued east on El Pueblo.

*On Friday, June 7, a Fountain Hills man was arrested after an altercation with deputies during a traffic stop on Saguaro Boulevard. A deputy stopped the man for excessive speed, traveling 63 miles per hour where the speed limit is 35. The man began to argue with deputies as he was searching for his vehicle documentation and attempted to flee when deputies began to place him under arrest.

*On Sunday, June 9, deputies were called to a residence in the 12000 block of Fountain Hills Boulevard. Neighbors had not seen anyone at the house for several weeks and they were hearing dogs in the back yard. Deputies found that the house was apparently abandoned and one of the dogs was injured. Sheriff’s animal cruelty detectives took the investigation.

*On Sunday, June 9, a Fountain Hills man reported someone made some obscene drawings on his driveway with chalk, they also sprayed “silly string” around the yard and turned off the main electrical breaker to the residence.

*On Saturday, May 25, deputies investigated a two-vehicle collision at Palisades Boulevard and Eagle Ridge Drive. A motorist traveling south on Palisades allegedly drove through the stop sign and struck a vehicle traveling east into the intersection from Eagle Ridge Drive. A passenger in the eastbound vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries and the driver of the southbound vehicle was cited for failure to stop and for failure to control her vehicle to avoid a collision.

*On Sunday, June 9, Fountain Hills Rural/Metro Fire Department responded to a fire at the Fry’s grocery store located at Shea Boulevard and Eagle Mountain Parkway.

Fire crews encountered an electrical fire that had been extinguished by an employee using a portable extinguisher.

The store was evacuated for a brief period while crews isolated the faulty electrical circuit. Damage was isolated to the electrical circuit and the store reopened for business.

There were no injuries.
