Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives from Fountain Hills District 7 arrested a Scottsdale man on Friday, March 28, in connection with alleged organized retail theft.

The detectives were working on a case involving the theft of electronic gear from the Fountain Hills Target store on Shea Boulevard in January this year. The investigation indicates the merchandise was stolen by cutting off a security latch and walking out of the store with the items concealed. Items were sold on the internet.

After identifying the suspect, detectives attempted to make contact with him at his residence in Scottsdale and were told he was not home. After several hours of surveillance the suspect was observed leaving the rear of the residence and he was taken into custody.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives from Fountain Hills District 7 arrested a Scottsdale man on Friday, March 28, in connection with alleged organized retail theft.

The detectives were working on a case involving the theft of electronic gear from the Fountain Hills Target store on Shea Boulevard in January this year. The investigation indicates the merchandise was stolen by cutting off a security latch and walking out of the store with the items concealed. Items were sold on the internet.

After identifying the suspect, detectives attempted to make contact with him at his residence in Scottsdale and were told he was not home. After several hours of surveillance the suspect was observed leaving the rear of the residence and he was taken into custody.

MCSO reports the suspect was in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.

The suspect was connected to eight other similar incidents in other jurisdictions. After he was taken into custody by MCSO he was arrested by Scottsdale Police on April 4 for crimes in its jurisdiction.

*On Sunday, March 31, deputies investigated a non-injury, single vehicle motorcycle crash at Palisades Blvd. and Wendover Drive.

*On Thursday, March 28, a middle school student alleged that another student cut her hair with scissors.

*On Friday, March 29, a woman alleged that a family member of a person she is a caretaker for, shoved her in a dispute over pay.

*On Wednesday, April 3, a doorbell camera at a home in the 14600 block of Kings Way observed a suspect stealing decorative yard décor from a home.

*On Saturday, March 30, deputies responded to a shoplifting report at the Target store in Fountain Hills and arrested a suspect who allegedly cut tags from merchandise and secured them in a bag, drank from an unpurchased beer can and attempted to steal electronics. Deputies located the suspect after being called to a vehicle burglary in which a check was taken from an unlocked car in the 14400 block of Saguaro Blvd. The suspect is also believed to be the same individual recorded on the doorbell camera four days later.

*On Wednesday, April 3, an unknown female subject is alleged to have stolen DVDs valued at $450 from the Fountain Hills Target store.

*On Thursday, March 28, an elderly Fountain Hills woman reported receiving a call from a man stating he was with a business and needed to credit her for cancellation of her account. He requested bank information so a refund could be deposited in her account. He later said he made an error and deposited $6,000 in her account instead of $600 and asked her to approve the withdrawal of the overpayment, which she approved. She was later informed this was a scam. The bank is attempting to reverse the withdrawal to a foreign account.

*On Saturday, March 30, a resident of the 16400 block of Avenue of the Fountains alleged that someone stole $387 in cash from a wallet.

*On Sunday, March 31, a resident reported she found the rear window of her vehicle had been broken with what appears to be a hammer.

*On Tuesday, April 2, at 5:34 p.m., there was a report of three palm trees on fire in the 17000 block of DeAnza Drive. A witness reported seeing someone burning weeds with a torch in the area.

*On Friday, March 29, a woman reported being bitten by a dog as she attempted to protect her dog from being attacked by two larger dogs. She required medical attention and the owner of the larger dogs was cited.

*Sunday, March 31, 8:25 a.m., criminal damage, 15600 block of Aspen Drive.
