Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a New Mexico man on Sunday, March 25, after he became combative when they made contact after receiving a complaint about the man sleeping outside a local grocery store.

Bashas’ employees called the Sheriff’s Office about 1:30 p.m. after the man refused to leave when he was found sleeping in a planter outside the store.

When deputies made contact the man refused to provide his name and started waving and yelling at deputies. When he continued to refuse to cooperate he was placed in handcuffs and secured inside a patrol vehicle.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a New Mexico man on Sunday, March 25, after he became combative when they made contact after receiving a complaint about the man sleeping outside a local grocery store.

Bashas’ employees called the Sheriff’s Office about 1:30 p.m. after the man refused to leave when he was found sleeping in a planter outside the store.

When deputies made contact the man refused to provide his name and started waving and yelling at deputies. When he continued to refuse to cooperate he was placed in handcuffs and secured inside a patrol vehicle.

The suspect began kicking at the vehicle and kicked a deputy as well.

The man faces charges for aggravated assault on an officer, refusing to provide a truthful name, refusing to leave private property when asked and disorderly conduct.

*On Friday, March 9, a Fountain Hills woman reported that a Home Depot credit card previously reported stolen had been used to charge merchandise totaling $1,500. She had been contacted by the store about the charge.

*On Wednesday, March 21, deputies received a report of an unknown subject using the identity and Social Security number of a Fountain Hills resident to open two internet/cable accounts in Anaheim, Calif. The resident was contacted by a collection agency about overdue payment.

*On Tuesday, March 20, the daughter of a Fountain Hills man reported her father had provided personal information over the phone to a person who identified themselves as calling to update Medicare information.

*On Thursday, March 22, a deputy made contact with a woman who was found unresponsive in a vehicle parked along the Beeline Highway south of Shea. The deputy administered Narcan and the woman was revived. She is believed to have been driving while impaired and there was a warrant for her arrest. The woman was turned over to the Salt River Police Department after she was evaluated by Salt River Fire personnel.

*On Monday, March 19, a resident of the 14000 block of Shimmering View reported the theft of a ring valued at $1,200 from their residence. Deputies questioned members of a cleaning crew.

*On Thursday, March 22, deputies received a report that someone had cut phone lines to a residence in the 17000 block of Oro Grande.

*On Saturday, March 24, deputies made a traffic stop on a driver for speeding and he was found to be driving with a suspended license.

*On Saturday, March 24, deputies were called to a residence in Goldfield Ranch where a resident reported someone had damaged a gate on a road across their property. They believe people use the road for a faster access to areas of Tonto National Forest nearby.

*On Saturday, March 24, deputies responded to a traffic accident at Saguaro Boulevard and La Montana Drive. A woman was traveling south on Saguaro when another driver pulled onto Saguaro from La Montana and collided. Both drivers said it is difficult to see at the intersection after dark. The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m.

*On Saturday, March 24, a Florida woman reported someone broke the window of her vehicle while it was parked outside a restaurant in the 11000 block of Saguaro Boulevard.

*On Saturday, March 24, deputies responded when two vehicles collided at Fountain Hills and Palomino boulevards.

*On Saturday, March 24, deputies responded with the fire department for a reported fire at a residence in the 14000 block of Love Court. A neighbor reported the fire but the resident of the home was uncooperative and kept telling deputies to leave. He eventually locked deputies out of the house. The fire appeared to have started in bedding on the floor of the residence.

*On Sunday, March 25, deputies responded to a report of a possible gas leak in the 9200 block of Verde Vista Court. A man working on a sewer line at the property met deputies and reported an explosion where he had been working. He was not injured. Deputies evacuated the area while the fire department and Southwest Gas employees secured the line.

*On Monday, March 26, a Peoria, Ariz. woman reported two light fixtures had been stolen from her that she had purchased at the Great Fair in Fountain Hills on Feb. 24. They were valued at $294.

*On Monday, March 26, a resident of the 15000 block of Richwood Drive reported a 2001 Honda stolen from his home between noon March 25 and 7 a.m. March 26. The vehicle was later recovered a short distance away on Boulder Drive.

*On Monday, March 26, a woman reported a box of items stolen from her while she was in the process of moving from California to Fountain Hills. The property is valued at $21,000 and she reported having difficulty getting information from the mover.

*On Monday, March 26, the Fountain Hills High School principal reported a “concerning” video related to the high school was posted on YouTube. Deputies determine no crime had been committed.

*On Friday, March 9, a resident of the 17000 block of Caliente Drive reported an air conditioning unit stolen from his home. There was no sign of forced entry. The property is valued at $6,400.

*On Monday, March 26, deputies received a report of a statue missing from in front of the Charter School preschool on Fountain Hills Boulevard. Following drag marks deputies located the statue within an enclosed area of the other Charter School building across the street.
