The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office mobilized its SWAT officers in Fountain Hills on Thursday, Jan. 4, after a man barricaded himself in an apartment on Saguaro Boulevard.
Deputies’ reports say the Fountain Hills man was armed and had allegedly made threats to kill members of a family he knew in the 12000 block of Saguaro.
As deputies arrived the suspect fled to a nearby residential unit and barricaded himself. SWAT officers arrived and secured the area. The man surrendered without incident about two hours after the confrontation began. Deputies found four handguns in the apartment where the man was barricaded. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

*On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a Fountain Hills resident reported that packages that had been expected for the holidays had not been received. The items were shipped by US Postal Service and had a valued of $1,500.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a Fountain Hills woman reported she believes she was scammed by a male subject who claimed to be a doctor working for the UN in Afghanistan. She reported sending him $17,000.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 3, deputies received a report that someone had stolen a water truck from a construction site near 138th Street and Rio Verde Drive.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 3, deputies were called to the 11000 block of Teller Drive where a man was reportedly making threats to his father. Deputies located the man in a second floor closet under some clothing. He was taken into custody and faces charges for disorderly conduct/noise.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 3, deputies took a report related to a woman allegedly making threats to her ex-boyfriend.
*On Monday, Jan. 8, deputies received a report of damage to playground equipment at The Fountains United Methodist Church at Fountain Hills and Glenbrook boulevards. Damage is estimated at $160.
*On Monday, Jan. 8, a Fountain Hills Realtor reported three of his real estate signs had been stolen from property in Fountain Hills.
*On Friday, Jan. 5, a Fountain Hills man reported a car and a trailer stolen from the garage at his residence in the 16000 block of Cerro Alto Drive.
*On Friday, Jan. 5, management at the Denny’s restaurant on Shea Boulevard reported two male subjects left the restaurant without paying their bill.
*On Saturday, Jan. 6, a deputy made a traffic stop in Fountain Hills and during the course of his investigation found marijuana in the vehicle. The driver was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
*On Sunday, Jan. 7, deputies received a report of damage to playground equipment at Four Peaks Park in the 13000 block of Calaveras Drive.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 9, deputies received a report of lumber stolen from a construction site in the 13000 block of Prospect Trail in Fountain Hills. A witness reported that on Jan. 7, a black pick-up truck was picking up lumber from the construction site and the suspicious activity was reported to the homebuilder on Jan. 9. The witness said the suspect was a white male. The contractor estimated the value of the lumber at $2,800.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 9, a resident reported that someone had removed material from a package that was delivered to a residence in the 16000 block of Glenbrook Boulevard. The case is pending while the victim follows up with the shipper to assure the material was not separated from the package during shipping.
