Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from a Fountain Hills woman on Saturday, June 17, that she had paid out a total of about $7,900 to someone claiming her grandson needed money in New Jersey after being arrested.

She wired the money in three different payments following separate phone calls from people claiming to be involved in the situation.

She called to report the incident after being convinced it was a scam.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from a Fountain Hills woman on Saturday, June 17, that she had paid out a total of about $7,900 to someone claiming her grandson needed money in New Jersey after being arrested.

She wired the money in three different payments following separate phone calls from people claiming to be involved in the situation.

She called to report the incident after being convinced it was a scam.

*In a separate scam report on Wednesday, June 14, a Fountain Hills man told deputies he wired $13,000 to someone who claimed to be representing the title company he was working with on a property purchase.

*On Saturday, June 10, a Fountain Hills man reported someone had removed the engine scoop from the hood of his pickup truck. It is valued at $150.

*On Thursday, June 15, a Fountain Hills woman reported two fraudulent checks on her account were presented to her bank for payment. Neither check was cashed.

*On Friday, June 16, deputies were called to a residence in the 28000 block of N. 136th Street when a neighbor reported several horses were at a nearby residence apparently without food or water, and no one at home. Animal cruelty deputies were called to assure the animals were taken care of and will follow up on the investigation.

*On Tuesday, June 20, deputies received a report that an unknown suspect had climbed a fence and went into the swimming pool at a condominium complex in the 14000 block of Saguaro Boulevard. After swimming, the suspect went back over the fence and left the scene. Those reporting the incident said they believe he may have taken something from the pool house, although that was not immediately determined.

*On Wednesday, June 21, a Phoenix man was stopped for speeding on Saguaro Boulevard. He was cited for criminal speed as well as driving with a suspended license and having no proof of insurance.

*On Wednesday, June 21, a Fountain Hills man, age 76, was arrested for domestic violence assault after placing his hands around the neck of his 83-yer-old wife.

*On Wednesday, June 21, deputies received a report of a burglary at a residence in the 14000 block of Galatea Drive. Suspects entered through a garage door and removed jewelry from the home.

*On Wednesday, June 21, a Fountain Hills woman reported finding a letter in her mailbox that she considered to be threatening.

*On Tuesday, June 20, a resident of the 14000 block of Ashbrook Drive reported a bicycle stolen.

*On Wednesday, June 21, a resident of the 15000 block of Tee Pee Drive reported a burglary forced open a side door to their home. Items missing include a shotgun, personal identification and documents, a hunting bow and jewelry.

*On Wednesday, June 21, a man was arrested at a Fountain Hills hotel for criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

*On Thursday, June 22, a Fountain Hills woman reported she sent a deposit on an apartment in Minnesota only to find out the apartment does not exist. The contact was made through a website.

*On Thursday, June 22, a Fountain Hills woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage at a house in the 13000 block of Manzanita Drive following a rampage and making threats.

*On Wednesday, June 21, deputies received a report from town parks employees that someone had stolen two bronze duck statues from a sculpture at Fountain Park.

*On Sunday, June 25, the Fountain Hills Denny’s restaurant reported two people left without paying for their meals costing about $30.

*On Monday, June 26, a Fountain Hills man found a tire punctured on his vehicle parked in the 16000 block of Greenbrier Lane.

*On Tuesday, June 27, a Mesa man was cited for criminal speed traveling 79 mile per hour on Shea Boulevard where the speed limit is 45.

*On Monday, June 26, a resident of the 15000 block of Maple Drive reported a shotgun stolen. The gun was last seen in November of 2016, and it may have been misplaced.

*On Monday, June 26, deputies received a report of a shoplifting incident at the Fountain Hills Safeway store. Two women left the store with $186 in merchandise and left in a dark-colored sedan.

*On Tuesday, June 27, a Fountain Hills man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a caretaker reported finding a white substance in a pipe at his residence.

*On Monday, June 26, a woman reported being assaulted by a neighbor as she was riding a horse in the area of the 34000 block of N. 136th Street. She said the neighbor rode up to her on a tractor and made a disparaging remark about her German heritage and then struck her in the arm. The victim said she believes the man had been drinking.
