The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that telephone scammers are busy making contact with Fountain Hills residents. Deputies responded to four reports on Friday and Saturday, June 24-25.
A 70-year-old Fountain Hills woman reported she received a call from a man identifying himself as a Sheriff’s deputy and said he had a warrant for her arrest if she did not pay $1,500.
She was instructed to pay the alleged fine via electronic money cards purchased at a grocery store.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that telephone scammers are busy making contact with Fountain Hills residents. Deputies responded to four reports on Friday and Saturday, June 24-25.
A 70-year-old Fountain Hills woman reported she received a call from a man identifying himself as a Sheriff’s deputy and said he had a warrant for her arrest if she did not pay $1,500.
She was instructed to pay the alleged fine via electronic money cards purchased at a grocery store.
The woman told deputies she realized the call was a scam after purchasing the money cards. She then reported the call to deputies.
A second Fountain Hills woman, age 65, reported receiving a similar call about a warrant for her arrest for “failure to appear.”
When she asked the caller to send the information via mail the subject hung up. She then called MCSO to report the incident.
A Fountain Hills man, age 42, also reported receiving a call about a fine of $3997, for missing jury duty.
An 84-year-old Fountain Hills woman called deputies to report she also received a call trying to scam her.
A caller told her if she paid a $500 processing fee she would receive a $5.5 million lottery prize. She was passed to a supervisor and accused the person of trying to scam her and the suspect hung up.
*On Saturday, June 18, a woman reported someone she believed to be her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home and stole property valued at an estimated $10,000. The woman told deputies she followed a vehicle she saw leaving her residence in the 28000 block of N. 140th Street. She looked inside the vehicle when it stopped for gas in Scottsdale. She found items belonging to her and her mother in the vehicle and her ex-boyfriend had been in the truck.
*On Sunday, June 19, a Fountain Hills resident reported someone had entered their home in the 16000 block of Heather Drive. They took $1,300 in cash from a briefcase and another $200 in coins from a cabinet. The suspect apparently located a key hidden outside to enter the house.
*On Sunday, June 19, deputies received a report of a vehicle stolen from the 15000 block of Stratford Circle in Fountain Hills. The man reporting the theft reported a woman he met on the internet had been staying at his home and left a note saying she had an emergency and needed to use his car and some cash. A laptop was in the vehicle and about $100 in cash was taken.
*On Monday, June 20, a man working in the 18000 block of Avenida Del Ray in Rio Verde reported a chain saw valued at $500 was taken from his truck.
*On Monday, June 20, deputies received a call from personnel at a local preschool reporting they were being harassed by the mother of a student. The mother was alleging that her child was subject to abuse, bullying and assault while at the preschool.
*On Wednesday, June 22, a Fountain Hills woman reported her juvenile granddaughter, age 16, had run away from home.
*On Wednesday, June 22, a Phoenix man was stopped for speeding on Saguaro Boulevard near Ledferd Lane and was found to be driving with a suspended license. He was cited and released.
*On Wednesday, June 22, a contractor working to prepare a new home site in the Goldfield area near Pleasant View Road and SR 87 reported someone had damaged a water well and removed batteries from equipment. The batteries are valued at $710 and the estimate to repair the well is $3,000 to $5,000.
On Thursday, June 23, deputies received a report that a juvenile suspect had entered a home in the 14000 block of Fountain Hills Boulevard by breaking a bathroom window. Nothing was missing.
*On Friday, June 24 a Fountain Hills man was stopped by deputies working traffic control at a construction site near Fountain Hills and Palisades boulevards. The man was suspected of driving under the influence as well as in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He faces charges for extreme DUI with a blood alcohol in excess of .20.
