A California woman made the report to deputies when she came to Fountain Hills to move the older couple back to California with her.
The suspect told deputies he had taken some of the prescription pain medication to use for his own chronic pain. He said he did so with his grandfather’s permission.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a report that a Fountain Hills man had been stealing prescription medication from his grandparents.
A California woman made the report to deputies when she came to Fountain Hills to move the older couple back to California with her.
The suspect told deputies he had taken some of the prescription pain medication to use for his own chronic pain. He said he did so with his grandfather’s permission.
The older man denied giving permission, although deputies reported his memory seemed unclear.
The Sheriff’s Office has forwarded the information to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges.
*On Tuesday, Feb. 2, deputies received a report of a hit and run vehicle accident on private property in the 17000 block of Shea Boulevard. A Fountain Hills Sanitary District employee reported his vehicle had been struck when a sedan backed into it in the alley behind the Comfort Inn.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 3, two westbound vehicles collided on Shea Boulevard just west of Technology Drive. The vehicles were traveling in the same direction when one was overtaken and struck by a second vehicle. The driver was cited for failure to control his vehicle.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 3, deputies investigated a reported assault on a male juvenile, 13, in the parking lot of a condominium complex at Saguaro Boulevard and Pepperwood Circle. A Fountain Hills man reportedly assaulted the juvenile who had been in a fight earlier with the suspect’s son. Witnesses said the man yelled and cussed at the juvenile, but left the scene before deputies arrived. The case was open pending contact with the suspect.
*On Thursday, Jan. 14, deputies were called to a two-vehicle non-injury accident at Palisades Boulevard and La Montana Drive. A motorist traveling east on Palisades was struck by a vehicle traveling south on La Montana. Both drivers say they stopped before proceeding into the intersection. The southbound driver said she did not see the eastbound car. She was cited for failure to yield.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 3, a male juvenile, age 14, was cited for truancy from Fountain Hills Middle School. He had reportedly missed 47 days of school in unexcused absence.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 3, deputies investigated a two-vehicle collision on Saguaro Boulevard at Malta Drive. A motorist traveling north on Saguaro and making a left turn onto Malta was struck by a second vehicle traveling south and making a turn from the frontage road onto Saguaro. The northbound driver was cited for speed related to causing the accident.
*On Friday, Feb. 5, a Fountain Hills woman reported that over a period of three weeks people have written fraudulent checks against her 90-year-old mother’s checking account.
*On Saturday, Feb. 6, a Scottsdale man was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license plate. He was stopped on Shea Boulevard west of Saguaro for speeding.
