The tax deadline is looming and several people have reported to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Fountain Hills that someone had filed false tax returns using their identification.
Between March 18 and March 24, four people reported they received word from the IRS or their tax accountant that tax returns using their name and Social Security number had already been filed.
*On Sunday, March 22, a man staying at the CopperWynd Resort in the 13000 block of Eagle Ridge Drive reported someone had stolen his golf bag from in front of the hotel. He reported he left it unattended at the front door and returned to find it gone. The clubs were valued at $3,500.

*On Monday, March 16, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone fraudulently opened two credit cards using her identification. The accounts were closed.
*On Monday, March 23, a Fountain Hills man reported someone had stolen a GPS unit from his vehicle parked in front of his house in the 15000 block of Sage Drive. The property is valued at $150.
*On Saturday, March 21, a resident of the 13000 block of Mountainside Drive reported someone threw eggs at their car parked in the driveway.
*On Sunday, March 22, a Fountain Hills resident reported someone had stolen $10 in change and a vehicle key valued at $50 from a vehicle parked in the 15000 block of Palisades Boulevard.
*On Monday, March 23, a veterinary clinic in the 16000 block of Palisades Boulevard reported items missing from a drug drawer at the clinic.
*On Wednesday, March 25, deputies responded to a report of a woman sleeping or passed out in a vehicle near Malta and Quinto drives. Deputies found a woman about to drive away when they arrived. She was arrested for extreme DUI with a blood alcohol level of .15 or greater. She was also cited for having an open container in the vehicle.
*On Thursday, a Fountain Hills man was arrested for assault and disorderly conduct. He had gotten into an argument with his wife in which she reported he had punched and kicked her as well as threw food at her.
*On Monday, March 23, a Fountain Hills woman reported computer fraud when she found emails missing from her account that related to a custody dispute. There were also photos missing and text messages gone from a cell phone.
*On Friday, March 27, deputies investigated a reported hit-and-run collision at Saguaro and Shea boulevards. A motorist in a sedan was making a right turn from Saguaro to Shea when a large box truck to her left also turned right and sideswiped her on the driver’s side. The truck continued west on Shea without stopping. A witness at the gas station confirmed the woman’s account of the accident. The truck was stopped by a deputy and the driver denied being in an accident, however, damage to his vehicle matched the account of the collision. He was cited for failure to remain at the scene of an accident and making an improper right turn.
*On Friday, March 27, deputies received a report of a hit and run on Dixie Mine Trail. An unknown vehicle went off the road and damaged landscaping and struck two vehicles parked in a driveway. They were unable to locate the vehicle responsible for the accident.
