Sheriff’s deputies received a report from Target store security personnel on Monday, Feb. 23, that someone had removed two cellular telephones from the electronics department.

The suspect was seen on store surveillance video using a lighter to melt plastic packaging securing the phones. The suspect removed the phones and left the store.

The man was identified from the video as a Fort McDowell resident, and deputies were attempting to make contact. He faces charges of organized retail theft, third degree burglary and reckless burning.

Sheriff’s deputies received a report from Target store security personnel on Monday, Feb. 23, that someone had removed two cellular telephones from the electronics department.

The suspect was seen on store surveillance video using a lighter to melt plastic packaging securing the phones. The suspect removed the phones and left the store.

The man was identified from the video as a Fort McDowell resident, and deputies were attempting to make contact. He faces charges of organized retail theft, third degree burglary and reckless burning.

*On Thursday, Feb. 19, a bicyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of La Montana Drive and Palisades Boulevard. The bicycle was damaged, but the rider was not injured. The motorist was cited for failure to yield.

*On Thursday, Feb. 19, a resident who was walking in the area reported criminal damage graffiti to where someone had spray painted a wall, utility equipment and rocks.

*On Monday, Feb. 16, deputies found a juvenile male, age 17, hiding in a closet at a residence in the 17000 block of El Pueblo Boulevard. Deputies were responding to a report from the resident about an intruder in the home. The suspect faces charges of criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and minor consumption of alcohol.

*On Wednesday, Feb. 18, a Fountain Hills man may have been DUI following a single-vehicle accident at Sunridge and Sunset drives. The man told deputies he swerved to avoid a coyote in the street. Deputies found an open vodka bottle next to the vehicle and medical staff at the hospital obtained a blood sample for lab evaluation. Charges are pending.

*On Wednesday, Feb. 18, a Fountain Hills woman reported she had been scammed out of $16,580 by someone who called and identified themselves as an IRS official and threatened her with arrest. She was told to withdraw the money and place it in a separate account.

*On Friday, Feb. 20, deputies investigated a single-vehicle collision on Kingstree Boulevard. The driver told deputies he passed out while coughing and struck a mailbox and a bush. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

*On Friday, Feb. 20, an Iowa man was arrested for extreme DUI (plus .20 BAC) following a rear-end collision at Fountain Hills and Palisades boulevards. There were no injuries.

*On Friday, Feb. 20, a resident reported criminal damage when he discovered an “anarchy sign” scratched into his vehicle parked in the 14000 block of Calle Del Prado. Damage is estimated at $500.

*On Saturday, Feb. 20, employees at the Circle K store at Saguaro and Shea boulevards reported a “father/son” team stole about $20 in cash, alcohol and a DVD. One of the male subjects involved was estimated to be eight to 10 years of age. They were in the store at about 2 a.m. and the clerk was in the back room.

*On Saturday, Feb. 21, a resident reported a dog attack in the 17000 block of Grande Boulevard. Two dogs were out of the back yard and reportedly scratched a young girl and bit her father. The dogs were not secured, and neighbors reported they get out of the backyard regularly and are aggressive.

*On Friday, Feb. 20, the Fountain Hills Target store security personnel reported the theft of video glasses valued at $199.

*On Sunday, Feb. 22, a Fountain Hills man was arrested for DUI after he was stopped for speeding on McDowell Mountain Road. He was traveling between 66 and 78 miles per hour where the speed limit is 45. He reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .145.

*On Sunday, Feb. 22, a California man was arrested for assault at a Fountain Hills hotel after a woman was reported calling for help. The two had an argument and had been drinking.

*On Monday, March 16, deputies responded to a report of a fight at a bar in the 11000 block of Saguaro Boulevard. A witness reported seeing a man hitting a woman and he struck two other men who attempted to intervene. The woman was uncooperative, but the man was arrested based on the witness report.

*On Monday, Feb. 23, an Indiana man reported the theft of items valued at $1,800 from his hotel room in the 17000 block of Shea Boulevard. The items were taken while the man and his family were at dinner.

*On Monday, Feb. 23, a Fountain Hills man reported he was notified by the IRS that someone had used his social Security number to file a fraudulent tax return.

*On Tuesday, March 24, personnel with Buffalo Construction reported damage to a trailer and equipment that was parked at the construction site for the Tractor Supply Company store in the 17000 block of Shea Boulevard. Damage is estimated at $900.

*Friday, Feb. 27, deputies were called to a Fountain Hills retail store where a woman employee reported that a Mesa man had stolen a watch from her valued at $5,300. Deputies were able to arrest the man for felony theft.

*On Wednesday, March 25, a Fountain Hills male subject, age 18, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found to have the items on the Fountain Hills High School campus.
