On Monday, Feb. 9, a vehicle making a left turn from Trevino Drive onto Saguaro Boulevard collided with a north-bound car. The driver in turn veered off over the median into south-bound lanes before crossing back across and striking a large Saguaro cactus planted in the median.
Neither driver was seriously injured in the accident. The cactus was to be relocated as part of the road construction project, but had to be cut down.

*On Saturday, Feb. 7, a man driving his 1986 Ferrari from Scottsdale to the Concours car show in Fountain Park crashed as he was making the turn from Shea Boulevard onto Fountain Hills Boulevard. The man told deputies he lost control on the turn going off the road and hitting a utility box. The man was cited for failure to control his speed and failure to have proof of insurance.
*On Tuesday, Feb. 10, deputies arrested a Gilbert man for reckless driving and DUI after he drove through barricades in the construction area on Saguaro Boulevard south of Fountain Hills Boulevard. A deputy on the scene reported the man was traveling 35 to 45 miles per hour when he went through the barricades onto the dirt area where pavement had been removed. He stopped his vehicle a couple of hundred yards down the street where deputies questioned him. He told deputies he got lost in Fountain Hills after leaving the Fort McDowell Casino.
*On Tuesday, Feb. 10, deputies were called to Richwood Avenue where they found that someone had backed into a residence and drove off. A witness reported a woman driving a van had backed from a driveway across the street into the neighbor’s yard, up an embankment and struck the house in the area of the kitchen. The vehicle then pulled through the carport down the driveway and left. Deputies went to the home were the car left and made contact with a woman who said her mother had just left for an exercise class. A deputy went to the exercise class where he found the vehicle and woman and they returned to the accident scene.
The woman, 91, told deputies she knew she had hit the house and knew it was wrong to leave, but planned to take care of the situation when she returned from class. There were no injuries. Deputies reported this was the fourth hit-and-run accident the woman has been involved in over the past two years.
*On Tuesday, Feb. 10, deputies responded when a woman, age 83, struck a pillar at the entry to the Mid-First Bank in the Safeway Plaza and also struck two pedestrians on the sidewalk. There were three teenage girls walking past the bank when the car went up over the curb and struck the pillar as well as them. One of the girls was knocked into the doors of the bank. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and later taken to the doctor by her father. The second girl reported being struck but initially said she was not injured. She later reported bruising on her leg, according to MCSO.
*A third accident on Tuesday, Feb. 10, took place on Hampstead Drive just north of Palisades Boulevard as classes at Fountain Hills High School were letting out for the day. One of the drivers involved said she was cut off by a car coming out of the school parking lot. She pulled around the vehicle and there was an ensuing collision. Deputies also reported a verbal altercation between parties following the collision. There were no injuries reported. One driver was cited for unsafe passing.
*On Monday, Feb. 9, deputies responded with Fountain Hills firefighters for a small brush fire in the wash behind a condo complex on Teakwood Drive. The area burned was approximately 20-foot square. Fire officials believe the warmer day caused combustion in debris.
*On Tuesday, Feb. 10, deputies received a report of someone spray painting graffiti on signs and a trash can in the overlook area on Shea Boulevard.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 11, a Fountain Hills woman was cited for aggravated DUI after deputies found her vehicle stopped in the street on Saguaro Boulevard near Amhurst Drive. The aggravating circumstance was that she had her nine-year-old son with her at the time. He was taken home by a family friend.
*On Wednesday, Feb. 11, deputies received a report of a group of juveniles setting fire to paper and plastic debris against the building at the Fountain Hills Community Center. They located minor smoke and heat damage to the outside of the building and turned the information over to detectives for follow-up.
*On Thursday, Feb. 5, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle striking a fire hydrant in the parking lot in the 11000 block of Saguaro Boulevard.
