Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 25-year-old Fountain Hills man outside a liquor store on El Pueblo Boulevard on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Deputies were following up on a report by a Fountain Hills man that he had a personal checkbook stolen and he believed his son was responsible. He is suspected of cashing checks with a value of up to $1,220.

Deputies interviewed friends and associates in an effort to locate the man. They received a tip from a livery driver that he had just called to be picked up at the liquor store.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 25-year-old Fountain Hills man outside a liquor store on El Pueblo Boulevard on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Deputies were following up on a report by a Fountain Hills man that he had a personal checkbook stolen and he believed his son was responsible. He is suspected of cashing checks with a value of up to $1,220.

Deputies interviewed friends and associates in an effort to locate the man. They received a tip from a livery driver that he had just called to be picked up at the liquor store.

When he was arrested the suspect was found in possession of the checkbook his father reported stolen hidden in his shoe. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia.

The man was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of identity theft, forgery fraud, using a false identity, possession of a forged instrument, burglary and theft.

*On Wednesday, Jan. 7, a Minnesota woman reported her wallet was stolen from her vehicle parked in the 26000 block of N. 156th Street in the Rio Verde Foothills area. The loss included the wallet, gift cards and jewelry -- all with a total value of $2,230.

*On Thursday, Jan. 8, a Phoenix man reported receiving several letters at his place of work in Fountain Hills from his ex-girlfriend in violation of a court order.

*A Gilbert woman died over the weekend as the result of an accident at Saguaro Lake. MCSO spokesman Chris Hegstrom said Saturday Jan. 16, around 11 a.m. the MCSO Lake Patrol deputies responded to the Coon Bluff Recreation Area (near Saguaro Lake) where a female had fallen approximately 125 feet while rappelling.
