The woman reported the man had called her several times eliciting personal information related to bank accounts and her Social Security number.
He instructed her to open a bank account to receive $1.5 million, and even sent a check to open the account. The woman told deputies she made several attempts to open the account, but the bank refused and advised her to report the incident to MCSO.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives are looking into a report by a Fountain Hills woman on Tuesday, Jan. 20, that a man had attempted to defraud her through a telephone scam.
The woman reported the man had called her several times eliciting personal information related to bank accounts and her Social Security number.
He instructed her to open a bank account to receive $1.5 million, and even sent a check to open the account. The woman told deputies she made several attempts to open the account, but the bank refused and advised her to report the incident to MCSO.
The case was turned over to detectives for investigation.
*On Thursday, Jan. 8, deputies responded to a vehicle accident at Shea Boulevard and Crestview Drive. A driver stopped for the traffic light was struck from behind by a driver who said she was blinded by the sunlight and did not see the traffic signal until it was too late to stop.
*On Saturday, Jan. 10, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone had smashed the windshield on her car and had poured a solvent on the interior and exterior. She believes it was done by an ex-boyfriend who had recently been arrested for trespassing on her property.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 13, deputies received a call from an out-of-state lender asking for help recovering a vehicle on a loan default.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 14, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone stole her credit card information and was using it to make fraudulent purchases out of state totaling $222. Deputies were able to trace the purchases to a Fountain Hills juvenile male who said he found the card and used it on a dare from a friend. The case has been turned over to the juvenile county attorney for possible charges.
*On Thursday, Jan. 15, deputies investigated a two-vehicle collision at Palisades and Shea boulevards. Both vehicles were making a right turn from Palisades to Shea in a double lane when one collided with the other. Damage was minor.
*On Thursday, Jan. 15, a Fort McDowell female, age 18, was found in possession of marijuana on the Fountain Hills High School campus. Charges are pending a lab test on the material.
*On Thursday, Jan. 15, deputies investigated a single-vehicle collision on the property of a condominium complex. A driver had struck a sign near the clubhouse. Passengers in the vehicle were evaluated for injury.
*On Thursday, Jan. 15, a Fountain Hills business man reported that a former employee had fraudulently taken $6,000 from the company between April 7, 2014 and Dec. 29, 2014. The information was forwarded to detectives for follow up.
*On Thursday, Jan. 15, a Fountain Hills woman was cited for speeding in the Shea Boulevard construction zone. She was recorded traveling 56 miles per hour where the speed limit is 25.
*On Friday, Jan. 16, deputies responded to a report of disorderly conduct on 163rd Street in Maricopa County. The man was allegedly firing a weapon during an argument over dogs.
*On Sunday, Jan. 18, a Fountain Hills man reported someone had broken into his vehicle parked in the 15000 block of Thistle Drive and removed fishing equipment valued at $2,300. There was no sign of forced entry.
*On Monday, Jan. 19, deputies investigated a collision at Fountain Hills and Palisades boulevards. A vehicle pulling from the Safeway parking lot was struck by a northbound vehicle on Fountain Hills Boulevard.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 20, a Glendale man was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Saguaro Boulevard near Palmer Way. The man told deputies his windows fogged up and he was unable to see. He struck the median and went off to the side and struck a sign. Deputies found him in a nearby parking lot changing a tire.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 20, a Fountain Hills man reported the theft of a money clip valued at $3,400. He believes it was taken from his home in November by a woman he met through a “sugar daddy” web site.
*On Monday, Jan. 19, deputies investigated a two-vehicle collision at La Montana Drive and Avenue of the Fountains. There was minor damage and no injuries.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 21, deputies investigated a minor rear-end collision at Shea and Palisades boulevards. The vehicles were eastbound on Shea.
*On Tuesday, Jan. 20, a Fountain Hills woman reported receiving phone calls from a Minnesota woman in violation of a court order.
*On Wednesday, Jan. 21, deputies were called to a vehicle accident at Fountain Hills and Shea boulevards. Two vehicles were stopped for the light when a driver reached for something and his foot slipped from the brake to the accelerator striking the car in front of him.
