A Scottsdale man faces possible aggravated assault charges after a Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy was struck by a car as he was directing traffic around a construction project at Fountain Hills and Kingstree boulevards Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The deputy was treated at a Scottsdale hospital for a leg injury and released, but not before he followed and stopped the suspect vehicle a short distance away.
According to the Sheriff's Office the driver was northbound on Fountain Hills Boulevard and refused the deputy’s order to stop and made a right hand turn onto Kingstree against the instructions of the deputy.

A Scottsdale man faces possible aggravated assault charges after a Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy was struck by a car as he was directing traffic around a construction project at Fountain Hills and Kingstree boulevards Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The deputy was treated at a Scottsdale hospital for a leg injury and released, but not before he followed and stopped the suspect vehicle a short distance away.
According to the Sheriff's Office the driver was northbound on Fountain Hills Boulevard and refused the deputy’s order to stop and made a right hand turn onto Kingstree against the instructions of the deputy.
The vehicle struck the deputy as the turn was made. The driver, who was reportedly unfamiliar with the area, was following vehicle navigation instructions at the time of the accident.
According to the Sheriff’s report on the incident the driver gave conflicting statements on whether he knew the deputy was law enforcement and whether his vehicle struck the deputy.
The driver faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, hit and run with physical injury and disobeying an officer during traffic control.
*On Sunday, Nov. 3, a Fountain Hills woman reported she was shown unauthorized photos of herself on a clone of her personal Facebook page.
*On Monday, Nov. 4, a Fountain Hills woman reported her 14-year-old granddaughter had run away from home.
*On Monday, Nov. 4, deputies investigated a single vehicle rollover accident on Rio Verde Drive near 176th Street. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Deputies reported the vehicle was apparently eastbound on Rio Verde Drive when it went off the road and sheered a power pole before rolling over. The driver was not immediately able to answer questions about the accident.
*On Tuesday, Nov. 5, deputies were called to a vehicle accident at La Montana Drive and Palisades Boulevard. One driver was southbound on La Montana and said they stopped before going through the intersection and collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on Palisades. The eastbound driver was cited for failure to yield.
*On Tuesday, Nov. 5, a Fountain Hills woman was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A deputy went to the woman’s residence after a report from a neighbor about receiving threats from the suspect. In talking to the woman the deputy saw a smoking pipe in plain sight in her apartment. The woman attempted to flee when she realized the deputy was going to arrest her.
*On Tuesday, Oct. 22, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone had broken into her vehicle parked in the 17000 block of La Montana Drive and removed a GPS device valued at $170.
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, deputies arrested a Mesa man during a traffic stop for speeding on Saguaro Boulevard. They found an outstanding felony warrant for the man’s arrest, and they discovered he was also in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
*On Thursday, Oct. 24, deputies responded to a Text-a-Tip message regarding a student with a pocket knife on the high school campus. The investigation revealed that three students were involved with three pocket knives. The three were released to their parents. No citations were issued.
