Detectives were returning after serving a warrant and making an arrest related to burglaries in Rio Verde. They pulled into a gas station to refuel when one detective became involved in an altercation with a man who refused to talk with him after an incident while in traffic.
The deputy reported he was cut off by the man driving at a high rate of speed causing the deputy to slam on his brakes.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies returning to Fountain Hills after serving a search warrant in Glendale arrested a man following an altercation at a gas station in Glendale on Sept. 19.
Detectives were returning after serving a warrant and making an arrest related to burglaries in Rio Verde. They pulled into a gas station to refuel when one detective became involved in an altercation with a man who refused to talk with him after an incident while in traffic.
The deputy reported he was cut off by the man driving at a high rate of speed causing the deputy to slam on his brakes.
The altercation became physical and the man was arrested for aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and felony aggravated DUI.
The man was arrested and brought to Fountain Hills for questioning about the incident.
*On Saturday, Sept. 21, deputies arrested a man for trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia at the Community Center in Rio Verde. Deputies found the man in his vehicle parked at the center. He had previously been ordered off the property and told not to return.
*On Thursday, Sept. 19, deputies received a report of a burglary at a residence in the 26000 block of Trails End in Rio Verde. Someone had entered the home through a front window and removed jewelry and coins valued at $6,000. Deputies had arrested a suspect in connection with similar burglaries in the community and believe the same man is responsible.
*On Monday, Sept. 23, a Tonto Verde woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident on McDowell Mountain Road west of Rio Verde. The woman was northbound on the roadway when she lost control and struck a dirt embankment. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
*On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Rio Verde Country Club reported the theft of gasoline valued at $20 from a golf cart parked at the club.
*On Monday, Sept. 16, a Fountain Hills woman reported a burglary at her residence in the 14000 block of Deerskin Drive. She told deputies she suspected her son had broken into the home through a bedroom window and removed jewelry valued at $16,540.
*On Friday, Sept. 6, a Fountain Hills man reported someone threw a rock through the window of his residence in the 15000 block of Green Valley Road.
*On Friday, Sept. 13, deputies received a report that four people were trespassing at a residence in the 16000 block of Ashbrook Drive. One of the suspects was the son of the homeowner who allegedly entered the home unwelcome while the owners were out of town.
*On Sunday, Sept. 22, deputies received a report of a stolen motorcycle from a residence in the 29000 block of 166th Way in Maricopa County. After talking with some of the juvenile suspects the vehicle was recovered.
*On Sunday, Sept. 29, a Fountain Hills woman reported she had been assaulted by another woman while at a bar in the 16000 block of Parkview Avenue. She stated she had been struck in the head by a woman who works at the bar, but was off-duty at the time.
*On Thursday, Sept. 26, a Fountain Hills man reported someone broke into his vehicle parked in his driveway in the 16000 block of Sabinas Drive. His wallet, a company ID and laptop computer valued at $1,000 were taken.
*On Thursday, Sept. 26, a Mesa man being arrested in connection with a Fountain Hills burglary was found to be in possession of narcotics at the time of his arrest.
*On Friday, Sept. 27, a man was arrested for aggravated assault on a peace officer. Deputies were asked to pick up the man on an order from a psychotherapist. Three deputies went to the residence in Maricopa County near Rio Verde. The man threatened deputies with a knife but gave up the weapon and was taken into custody after he was hit with a Taser. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Deputies later found 28 guns in the residence. The man was arrested after he was released from the hospital where he was taken after being struck with the Taser.
*Sheriff’s deputies responded to a break-in at a Verizon wireless store in the Target shopping center early on Monday morning, Sept. 23.
Deputies were called about 6:30 a.m. when customers at a nearby Starbucks reported hearing an audible alarm coming from the Verizon store.
A front window was broken out and it appears the burglar may have entered a rear office.
The alarm sounding was from the severed cords from several missing phones that had been on display in the front of the store.
The investigation is ongoing.
*A Fountain Hills woman received minor injuries when her car went off the road on Keota Drive about 9 p.m. Tuesday, and two children, ages four and 14, who were passengers were unhurt in the accident.
The teenage passenger told deputies the driver lost control when she swerved to avoid a coyote in the road.
The car struck an embankment and came to rest on its side against a tree about 20 feet off the roadway.
A Sheriff’s deputy helped the four-year-old out through a skylight in the car and the older girl was helped out through the front when the windshield was removed.
The driver was extricated from the wreck after the roof was cut away from the vehicle.
