The woman said she was the victim of a scheme and lost between $3,300 and $5,800.
The woman received a call from someone telling her she had won $2.5 million and a new car. To claim the winnings the woman was told to send $2,000 in cash and five iPhones to an out-of-state address.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputies in Fountain Hills received a report from a Fountain Hills woman regarding a fraudulent scheme on Friday, Aug. 23.
The woman said she was the victim of a scheme and lost between $3,300 and $5,800.
The woman received a call from someone telling her she had won $2.5 million and a new car. To claim the winnings the woman was told to send $2,000 in cash and five iPhones to an out-of-state address.
She told deputies she did not know why she fell for the scam, and called the Sheriff when her children intervened.
Detectives are using information provided by the woman to follow up on the case.
*On Tuesday, Aug. 13, deputies received a report that someone had attempted to enter a residence in the 12000 block of Saguaro Boulevard. Pry marks were found on a rear sliding glass door.
*On Friday, Aug. 16, a trailer that had been reported stolen out of Texas was returned to a U-Haul storage facility in Fountain Hills. The trailer was reported stolen after it was not returned between mid-July and mid-August. The person who dropped off the trailer was not aware it had been reported stolen. U-Haul officials believe there may have been a paperwork mix-up that caused the trailer to be reported stolen.
*On Saturday, Aug. 17, deputies investigated a single vehicle accident on Fountain Hills Boulevard near Ironwood and Segundo drives. The driver of a northbound vehicle lost control and crossed over the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and a utility box.
*On Saturday, Aug. 17, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone had written two fraudulent checks totaling $1,600 against her account.
*On Thursday, Aug. 22, deputies responded to assist at a reported vehicle fire off the Beeline Highway and the Sycamore Creek turnoff north of the Bush Highway. A Ford pick-up was on fire.
*On Thursday, Aug. 22, a Fountain Hills man reported the theft of a handgun from his residence in the 16000 block of Avenue of the Fountains. The gun was last seen around mid-May and the owner is uncertain whether it has been stolen or misplaced.
*On Friday, Aug. 23, deputies investigated a chain-reaction rear-end collision at Shea and Fountain Hills boulevards involving four vehicles. The drive of the rear vehicle said she was distracted looking for street signs and did not see the vehicles stopping in front of her.
*On Saturday, Aug. 24, a Fountain Hills female, age, 20, was cited for underage consumption of alcohol and DUI after a traffic stop at Hamilton and Bayfield drives. A deputy stopped the woman after observing her make a left turn from the right lane and striking the curb.
*On Monday, Aug. 26, a Tempe man was arrested and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after he was stopped at Fountain Hills Boulevard and Inca Drive. A deputy stopped the man for no license plate light. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana and his pipe was in the vehicle.
*On Wednesday, July 31, a Fountain Hills woman reported her domestic partner refused to allow her to leave their shared residence with her son. Deputies submitted a complaint against both women for disorderly conduct domestic violence to the town prosecutor.
*On Wednesday, Aug. 21, a sheriff’s deputy attested a shoplifting suspect after he observed a vehicle matching one reported involved in the incident at a gas station. The shoplifting incident was reported Aug. 11, and the suspect and vehicle were identified through store surveillance cameras. A 23-year-old Scottsdale resident who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested after she was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was cited and released.
*On Monday, Aug. 19, a representative of Cactus Asphalt reported someone had stolen batteries and controllers from two directional arrow boards placed on Fountain Hills Boulevard.
*On Wednesday, Aug. 21, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone attempted to enter her residence in the 14000 block of La Costa Drive. The resident reported an alarm had been activated and a sliding glass door was found partially open.
*On Monday, Aug. 26, a Fountain Hills woman reported someone attempted to defraud her regarding long-term care insurance. They were using the Social Security number of her grandson.
*On Monday, Aug. 26, a woman reported someone had stolen a package from their mailbox in the 16000 block of Emerald Drive. The property had a value of $125.
*On Tuesday, Aug. 27, a Fountain Hills man was arrested for an outstanding warrant after he was found staggering along Saguaro Boulevard near Avenue of the Fountains. Deputies reported the man had a blood alcohol level of .312. The report was forwarded to the Arizona Department of Liquor Control as the man had been served after he was obviously intoxicated.
*On Wednesday, Aug. 14, a resident of the 14000 block of Olympic Way reported a BMX bicycle valued at $300 was stolen from his open garage.
*On Wednesday, Aug. 14, deputies posed charges of disorderly conducted against a Mesa woman for disorderly conduct after she got into an argument with her sister at a residence in the 16000 block of Emerald Drive. The charges are pending a review by the town prosecutor.
