Leadership

Words that define public leadership: democratic(not autocratic), integrity, collaborative, accountability, constructive, consensus building, makes hard decisions in best interest of constituents(not special interests), seeks input from constituents, vision, passion about serving the constituents (not one’s personal agenda), team builder, acknowledge the work of staff, respect for staff(don’t undermine) and all constituents, responsive government.

The above list describes what the town has not had these past four years under Linda Kavanaugh. The town has had four years of a total lack of true leadership under our present mayor. Three examples of this are:

-It has been over a year since the wrong lighting was installed at the Fountain. Despite overwhelming evidence that the Town did not get what we paid for (approximately $400,000 worth) we still await feedback and resolution from our Mayor. Dark Sky Community? Not around the Town icon! Where is the leadership?

Not around the Town icon! Where is the leadership?

-The Dark Sky Committee that was formed around the same time as the Fountain lighting fiasco is still awaiting Town Council approval for the new town lighting ordinance which will give FH a chance to be one of nine towns in the world to get official Dark Sky status. Leadership?

-The Park Place Project to build four-story buildings along the south side of Avenue of the Fountains was rejected by the town Planning and Zoning Commission. The Town Council overruled the Commission’s decision by a vote of 4-3; the Mayor’s yes vote broke the tie. Two of the three Council members who voted to overrule the Commission are developers themselves. Based on the constituents’ overwhelming negative feedback through emails and responses at the Town Council meeting, this project should have gone to a town-wide referendum. Where was the leadership?
