John LesCallett from The Anglican Church of the Atonement was ordained as a transitional deacon June 27 at Christ Church Anglican in Carefree.

He has been serving as lay reader in charge at Atonement in Fountain Hills for the past three years.

Church officials say he has been instrumental in stabilizing the congregation following the retirement of their vicar, the Rev. Dan Robling.

Having worked as a primary field consultant in stewardship and evangelism for the Episcopal Church Center in New York, LesCallett has worked in congregations and dioceses all around the United States.

Since joining the Anglican Church in the Diocese of the Southwest States, he has served the diocese at stewardship advisor.

He will host his first Holy Communion on Sunday, June 30.

That will occur at 9 a.m. at Church of the Atonement, corner of Saguaro and Kingstree boulevards, in Fountain Hills.

All in the community are invited to this special service, to be followed by a continental breakfast.

“Come give Deacon John a big welcome at his Communion,” said Nate Foster, senior warden at the Anglican Church of the Atonement.
