Well, it appears to be the early onset of the Dog Days of summer. I'm referring specifically to the almost half-page news article in the June 3 Arizona Republic covering the dustup between a couple of Fountain Hills Town Council members and the local newspaper.
There have been murmurs since The Fountain Hills Times was taken over by the Independent Newsmedia group by elected officials and writers of letters to the editor complaining about the left-leaning biases of the new ownership. Elected officials have now become outspoken about the reporting taking place in the Independent, which has now manifested itself into a battle over a table.
As a courtesy, the Fountain Hills Times Independent reporter, as well as other outlets, have been provided a table in the council chamber to use in writing the procedures taking place at council meetings. It has always been so, but apparently retaliation was called for when a story impacting some of the elected officials was poorly reported as well as other reporting problems with the paper were called out. Thus, the removal of the reporters’ offensive table ensued.
