Light pollution seminar topic in Fountain Hills

The Fountain Hills Community Center is hosting a seminar on the topic of Environmental Light Pollution, taking place from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Community Center, 13001 N. La Montana Drive.

The seminar titled “Light Pollution: Why Should I Care?” will discuss the growing issue of excessive artificial lighting and its detrimental effects on ecosystems, human health and the night sky. Key points will include the ecological impact of light pollution on wildlife; how light pollution disrupts human circadian rhythms; the economic and environmental costs of inefficient outdoor lighting; and innovative solutions to reduce light pollution.

Ted Blank, a local resident, board member of the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association and a NASA Solar System Ambassador, will share the latest research on the effects of light pollution and how inexpensive changes to outdoor lighting can eliminate the source of these problems more easily than almost any other type of environmental pollution.

The Fountain Hills Community Center is hosting a seminar on the topic of Environmental Light Pollution, taking place from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Community Center, 13001 N. La Montana Drive.
