Light the way

One letter writer is not happy with the new lights along the sidewalks in Fountain Park.

He says the lights are too bright, blocking out seeing the stars. Plus, he did not like the color of the light posts.

The letter ending by inviting people to go walk at night and see for ourselves.

My wife and I did just that; waited until after 9 p.m. when it was dark, and walked around Fountain Park.

The walkway lights are bright; light up the sidewalk very well. If I stood in front and facing a light, there was some glare. However, I could still see the moon and stars. If I turned my back to the light, I could see in the opposite direction very well: stars visible.

When we stood “between” lights, we had a clear vision of the sky and stars. Some areas in the sky were hazy, and that haze blocked out the stars.

If the sky has cloud cover or hazy, one will not see stars. Has nothing to do with the park lights.

Both of us felt the lamp color was neutral and not offensive to us. The lamps provide permanent luminaria ambience. Looks nice.

A number of people were walking late, because they had light to see. This is an added benefit to walk later at night. One can definitely see any rattlesnake on the path.
