I would like to comment on the new lights in place around the Fountain Park path. I have read letters to the editor and listened to the folks on the path who are circulating a petition to have the lights altered.
I had only seen the lights from the road while driving by, so last week we went to the park at 9 p.m. when it was fully dark. My wife and I walked around the path expecting to be blinded after listening to the complaints from the opponents of the lights.
While there is no question the lights brighten the path and surrounding area, it’s certainly not blinding. The lights do what they were intended to do as far as we are concerned.

We live a couple of blocks from the park. When I go outside at my home and look at the night sky, there is no effect from the lights at the park on my night sky view. I think the complaints being presented are not accurately reflecting the overall effect of these lights.
To quote a much better writer than I, “Methinks thou dost protest too much.”
Ninety-nine percent of Fountain Hills is unlit at night, so to have some light at the park to allow us all to use it night or day is a benefit to many people. In our opinion the new lights are a great asset to the park.
