Lightning ignites two wildfires

Tonto National Forest is reporting two lightning-caused wildfires that began late Thursday in the Mazatzal Mountains northeast of Fountain Hills.

The larger of the two is the Cain Fire just below Four Peaks with smoke visible from Fountain Hills.

As of 1 p.m. Friday this fire was reported to be 37 acres in steep, rocky terrain burning in chaparral, brush and grass.

Lightning ignites two wildfires

Tonto National Forest is reporting two lightning-caused wildfires that began late Thursday in the Mazatzal Mountains northeast of Fountain Hills.

The larger of the two is the Cain Fire just below Four Peaks with smoke visible from Fountain Hills.

As of 1 p.m. Friday this fire was reported to be 37 acres in steep, rocky terrain burning in chaparral, brush and grass.

There was one engine crew and one air attack aircraft assigned. The area is in the Four Peaks Wilderness area and very remote. Fire activity is being monitored by air.

The second fire is known as the Reno Fire burning in the Reno Pass area about seven miles northwest of Tonto Basin, just a mile south of Mt. Ord.

This fire is reported at approximately eight acres and burning chaparral, brush and pinion juniper in steep, rocky terrain.

There is one engine and one aircraft assigned with a total of five personnel.

Minimal fire activity was being observed on the Reno Fire early Friday.
