Many years ago, in the public schools of New York, the path of a transgressor was a three-part symphony. When Little Johnny messed up, he would first be admonished by his teacher. This was followed by a trip to the principal’s office, where he was admonished for a second time and left to sit on a bench to contemplate his sins until school was out.
The third and final step was a trip home with a note to his parents. This was the most difficult part of the day as it was a certainty that his pants would be lowered and his behind thrashed in accordance with the severity of the transgression.
Finally, Little Johnny apologizes and promises never to do it again. Little Johnny grows up to be President.

Today we have reversed the procedure. Little Johnny runs home and tells his mother that his personality has been terminally damaged by a teacher who told him to stop what he was doing. His parents then contemplate the situation over a few martinis and call their lawyer.
Finally, Little Johnny, the mother, the lawyer and the ACLU descend on the school and threaten legal action to save Little Johnny’s self-esteem unless there is retribution against the teacher for having the audacity to say “stop it.”
Little Johnny goes to school the next day and brags about what he got away with and the School Board lives happily ever after. Little Johnny grows up to sell “Mary Jane” in the school parking lot.
With little or no discipline or regulation on the campus, it comes as no surprise that the national media announced the manner in which prestigious Brown University recently celebrated “Naked Week” with the apparent approval of the faculty.
