While Fountain Hills has been home to its fair share of headline-making crimes in recent years, a report from Maricopa County Sheriff’s Capt. Larry Kratzer presented to the Town Council on Sept. 3 makes it clear that the community is still on the lower end of the spectrum when compared to its peers.
You can check out the highlights from the report beginning on page 1A of this week’s paper, but the gist of it is that outside of a few unusual occurrences, Fountain Hills’ criminal activity has remained relatively low over the past five years.
These details come from Uniform Crime Report Estimates, with Fountain Hills stacked up against the likes of Buckeye, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Scottsdale and Chandler.

It’s easy to understand why someone might assume crime is on the rise around the community. We had four homicides in the community in 2018, multiple high-profile automobile incidents, a spree of car break-ins this year and, to kick off 2019, the first reported officer-involved shooting of the year.
But while those events can certainly be viewed as exclamation points, the sentences they are a part of are pretty tame when compared to the rest of the Valley.
Anyone who reads the crime report knows that deputies are kept busy around town but, based on the latest figures and the types of crimes prevalent around the community, it looks like Fountain Hills is unlikely to get its own “C.S.I.” spinoff. And you know what? We’re totally fine with that.
