Fountain Hills residents have long been involved in politics at all levels of government, and three locals fared well in the primary election against opponents of their own party.
David Schweikert will continue to carry the GOP banner to the General Election for U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona District 1. Schweikert, the long-time incumbent, easily outdistanced two challengers from his own party for the primary win. In November, Schweikert will face Democrat Amish Shah who won his party’s nomination in a hotly contested primary race.
Jerry Sheridan, formerly a Fountain Hills resident and current resident of the Goldfield Ranch community just east of the Verde River from Fountain Hills, is the Republican candidate for Maricopa County Sheriff. Sheridan was a sheriff’s deputy for decades and served as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sheridan won the primary race against Frank Milstead, former Mesa Police Chief and DPS director. The Democrat candidate Sheridan will face in the November General Election is Tyler Kamp, a former Phoenix Police commander.
