OPINION — A year ago, while presiding over his first State of the Town meeting, Mayor Friedel observed, “(i)t is important that we don’t deal in drama … we have town business to conduct.”
Yet here we stand, looking back on the most dramatically dysfunctional year in the town’s history. The conduct of the town’s business has been overshadowed by the hyper-partisan drama carried out by Friedel and the “new majority.”
Season One began at the first meeting when Jacob Chansley, the QAnon Shaman, made a celebrity guest appearance to pose with a beaming Gayle Earle. Earle went on to star in the episode where false accusations of overbilling led to the resignation of the town attorney and the appointment of an inexperienced lawyer and a firm that twice sued the town.
