Posted

Louise Alice Mattson of Fountain Hills left the loving arms of her family on Dec. 5, 2016 into the open arms of her Lord following a more than six- year battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). We know she is rejoicing in Eternity with those waiting for her.

Louise was born in Minneapolis, Minn. to Kenneth and Clara Day on Oct. 27, 1937. She attended Lake Johanna Elementary School, Alexander Ramsey high school and was a graduate of Macalester College.

She married George Bruce Mattson in 1960. They have resided in Arizona for more than 54 wonderful years. Louise was an ASU mentor elementary teacher and retired from Yavapai Elementary in the Scottsdale School District.

She was a member of the Scottsdale Presbyterian Church for 53 years. She lovingly held the positions of both Elder and Deacon and was involved in many activities of the church.

She also was active for many years in other volunteer organizations including many summer work sessions with the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR in Chama, N.M.

Her parents and her brother, Thomas Day predeceased Louise. She is survived by her beloved husband, George Bruce Mattson; her sons, Thomas Mattson of Santa Barbara, Calif., Gregory Mattson (Alisa); and her two grandchildren, Ryder and Devyn of Mukilteo Wash. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, her “forever friends” bridge group, her two bonus sons, Steve Laflen and Matt Bartok and many dear friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Jan. 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, 3401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85251 480-946-4207.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, Caring Voices Coalition.com or Hospice of the Valley.
