Magical camp transforms special actors

A packed house recently filled the auditorium at Christ’s Church of Fountain Hills to see a musical.

The church has music each Sunday for its worship services, but this musical was different in many regards.

It was the culmination of a week-long camp for youths and young adults with disabilities called Arizona Magic of Music & Dance.

The annual camp this year staged “Hero,” showcasing many heroes among those who volunteered for the program or who participated in it.

They spent four days prepping for the musical, and then it was staged for the audience on a Friday.

All of the actors were physically and mentally challenged children and young adults.

The actors worked with one or more dedicated volunteers to learn their parts.

The actors for this year’s camp include Bill Bacon, Ben Barrus, Emma Biggs, Chyrstal Braden, Christina Clapp, Brian Daniels, Sidney Daswick, Emily Donley, Barrett Dunham and Andrew Fox.

Others were Renee Fox, Alex Horne, Luke Humble, Lauren Hummel, Tristan Johnson, Grace Linaman, Nathan Pike, Alan Smith, Jacob Sparks, Zander Wolkins and Peter Yanovitch.

Program volunteers were Brett Barr, Rachel Blackbourn, Zoe Biggs, Davis Bocks, Vanessa Chu, Garrett Elkins, Alex Faubion, Becky Gates, Megan Gates, Lauren Gilliland, Mikayla Gonzalez, Cali Halaby, Lauren Harper and Bruck Henne.

Others were Zoe Isaac, Kaitlin Kirkham, Maria Kraus, McKenna Lane, Savannah Lane, Tarod Leib, Emily Leinweber, Michelle Mahoney, Nick Mastro, Julia Matuszak, Alex Nyberg, Stephanie Nyberg, Danielle Olson, Dani Pace and Sachin Pathangey.

Finally, Lindsey Ranta, Alexis Riordan, Drake Sadosky, Trey Smith, Julia Taffuri, Daniel Teran, Bianca Torres, Daniela Valdez, Anna Wadsworth, Sierra Waldorf, Samuel Zillwood and Rebecca Zolikoff.
