Why didn’t The Times let its readers know about the vote split in determining the large funding the Town Council decided to give the Fountain Hills Theater? It was not unanimous.
Two stalwarts, Mayor Linda Kavanagh and Councilman Cecil Yates, voted against it. The Times didn’t say how the council voted as individuals – Yea, Nay or Abstain. We’d like to know.

Have you ever heard of “managed news?” It’s when a newspaper is telling the truth, but omits to tell you all that’s pertinent, usually for political reasons.
Mayor Kavanagh’s office was deluged with phone calls assuming she was part of a unanimous “yes” vote. She has reminded us residents many times the theater could augment its resources by offering endowments and a foundation, as the River of Time Museum does.
I only wish The Times would also print the names of the “Big Time Spenders” of our taxpayers’ money.
(Editor’s Note: Voting in favor of allocating $70, 240 for the theater in next year’s town budget were Vice Mayor Tait Elkie and Councilmembers Dennis Brown, Cassie Hansen and Henry Leger. Voting against were Mayor Linda Kavanagh and Councilman Cecil Yates. Councilwoman Ginny Dickey did not participate in the theater discussion and abstained from voting on that particular issue. Her sister, Val Stasik, is the theater’s executive director.)
