Margaret Ann “Peg” Hatch passed from this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2014 in Petoskey, Mich. at the age of 74.
She was born Margaret Ann O’Donnell in Saginaw, Mich. to William E. and Anna (Favara) O’Donnell on May 14, 1940. Both her mother and father preceded her in death.
Peg, as she became known, grew up in Saginaw and attended St. Mary’s Cathedral High School. Peg continued her education at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her nursing degree and became a registered nurse.
Her career as an R.N. spanned four states, for many of those years she worked as first surgical assistant to Dr. Fred Cady of Saginaw. She enjoyed being active and was fond of travel, tennis and pickle ball.
On Aug. 5, 1961 she married James L. Hatch in Saginaw, the couple were blessed with 53 wonderful years; they together raised a daughter and two sons. Peg’s faith was the central tenet of her life, she was a devout Catholic, spending time every day in meditative prayer and praying The Holy Rosary.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who was sadly preceded in death by her son, Dr. Stephen J. Hatch, and by her grandson, Ian M. Hatch, granddaughter, Lindsay K. Hatch, and daughters-in-law, Julie (Siwik) Hatch and Kimberly (Neal) Hatch.
Peg is survived by her husband, James, and by daughter, Julie A. (Dennis) Burk, and son, Michael P. (Ellen) Hatch. Her grandchildren include Jordan P. Merz, Evan J. Merz, Hanna C. Merz, Austin J. Hatch, James P. Hatch, Andrew A. Hatch, Maria Bowersock, Brittnee Burns and Austin T. Neal. She is also survived by brothers, William (Norma) O’Donnell, Patrick (Merla) O’Donnell, Michael (Colleen) O’Donnell, Danny (Linda) O’Donnell; and sisters, Mary Ciucci and Barbara (Douglas) Schweitzer; mother-in-law, Frances B. Hatch; sisters-in-law, Kathleen O’Donnell, F. Anne Campbell, Mary A. Kotulionus; and brother-in-law, Aaron Vaughan.
Peg was very proud of all her loving nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Her lifelong friend and sister-in-Christ, Marian Troester Pasek, also survives. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jan Vaughan, and her brothers, Thomas, James, Harold and John O’Donnell and brother-in-law, John Ciucci.
For the last several years Peg has split her time residing between both Petoskey, Mich. and Fountain Hills. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that her family and close friends will cherish for the rest of their lives.
Peg’s life will be remembered, honored and celebrated with a Funeral Mass, which has been planned for Thursday, June 19, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Acting as celebrant will be Fr. Dennis Stilwell. Internment will take place within St. Francis Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. A Memorial Mass is also planned for Friday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Ascension, Fountain Hills.
