Margaret Simons Schilling (Peggy) died peacefully at her home in Fountain Hills on Feb. 7 at the age of 91.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 66 years Hugh Schilling; children, Terry Gilberstadt (David) of St. Paul, Minn., Hutch Schilling (Carol) of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lynn Brown (Charlie) of Bay City, Wis.; grandchildren, Meredith Miller (Mike) of Scottsdale, Jacquelyn Wiedemer (Eric) of Rocky River, Ohio, Hank Schilling of White Bear Lake, Minn., Dorothy Tiernan (Andrew) of United Kingdom, Emogene Cataldo (Kai) of New York, N.Y., Edward Brown of New Orleans, La., Samuel Brown of Winona, Minn. and, Hugh Brown of Red Wing, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Marek and Macalister Miller, Seraphina Tiernan, Frederick Wiedemer and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Emogene Simons; brother, James Simons and sister, Janet Simons Stephens.
Born Aug. 9, 1925 in St. Paul, Minn., Peggy graduated from Summit School in 1943 and Smith College in 1948 with a degree in English. She received her teaching degree from the University of Minnesota. She taught second grade at Central Elementary in Richfield, Minn. prior to marriage.
Peggy had a life-long interest in main stream and special education. An avid reader her entire life, she volunteered her time and talent in many school tutoring programs and civic organizations.
She deeply loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed time at their cabin at Elbow Lake near Siren, Wis. entertaining family and friends and traveling the world with her husband Hugh. They were devoted to one another and were the joy in each other’s life.
Peggy loved animals and enjoyed being in and observing nature, especially birds.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers that touched Peggy’s life over the last eight years.
Memorials can be sent to donor’s charity of choice. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Minnesota.
